Ada Lovelace

A painting of Ada Lovelace standing up and turning her head to face the viewer.

Ada Lovelace is often referred to as the "First Computer Programmer" due to her observations of the Analytical Engine. She translated and added many notes to an article written by Luigi Menabrea, and published it as “Sketch of the Analytical Engine, with Notes from the Translator". The article includes speculations about computers being able to compose complex music and contains the first published description of a step-by-step sequence of tasks being carried out by a device to solve mathematical problems, among other advanced ideas.
